SearchMe was a visual search engine A web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Founding

SearchMe was founded in March 2005 by Randy Adams Randy Adams is a serial entrepreneur funded by Sequoia Capital in Menlo Park, California in the Silicon Valley, and a founder of Funny or Die and SearchMe and John Holland.[4][5] Adams was inspired to start this search engine when his 5-year-old son was having difficulty reading. He hoped to create a search engine that "would improve the experience of finding information online".[5] Sequoia Capital Sequoia Capital is a world leading venture capital firm located on Sand Hill Road. The Wall Street Journal has called Sequoia Capital "one of the highest-caliber venture firms" in the world, and noted that it is "one of Silicon Valley's most influential venture-capital firms" The New York Times has called Sequoia "one of spent millions of dollars to fund SearchMe during the website's opening years.[5]

Algorithms are used for calculation, data processing, and many other fields and the number of views a website has received. Websites that are "visually appealing" are ranked higher than those that are not.[6]

Criticism

SearchMe has been criticized for not providing the number of search results, causing users to not know whether they are perusing through 10 results or 1000 results.[11] Some of SearchMe's screenshots are difficult to read, causing users to decide whether a site is relevant based on its appearance.[12] However, the website highlights the search queries for easier perusal of the screenshot.[13]

Other services

In 2007, SearchMe founded Wikiseek Wikiseek was a search engine that indexed Wikipedia pages and pages that were linked to from Wikipedia articles. The search engine was founded by Palo Alto based internet startup SearchMe and was officially launched on January 17, 2007. Most of the funding came from Sequoia Capital. It used Google ads on its search returns to generate profit. As, which indexed Wikipedia Wikipedia is a free, web-based, collaborative, multilingual encyclopedia project supported by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. Its 15 million articles have been written collaboratively by volunteers around the world, and almost all of its articles can be edited by anyone with access to the site. In October 2008, SearchMe released a music streaming service Streaming media are multimedia that are constantly received by, and normally presented to, an end-user while being delivered by a streaming provider . The distinction is usually applied to media that are distributed over telecommunications networks, as most, which enables users to download an unlimited number of songs.[14] The service relies on Imeem imeem was a social media service where users interacted with each other by streaming, uploading and sharing music and music videos. However, it has since been shut down now that MySpace has acquired the service's collection of music.[15]

Q. Why is it that every time i try typing searchme.com in my address bar i am automatically directed to google. This is so frustrating pls help tx :) The website was featured in a magazine so it does exist and it seems like it is easier than google as it allows visual searching
