Advertising is a form of communication intended to persuade an audience (viewers, readers or listeners) to purchase or take some action upon products, ideals, or services. It includes the name of a product or service and how that product or service could benefit the consumer, to persuade a target market to purchase or to consume that particular brand. These brands are usually paid for or identified through sponsors and viewed via various media. Advertising can also serve to communicate an idea to a mass amount of people in an attempt to convince them to take a certain action, such as encouraging 'environmentally friendly' behaviors, and even unhealthy behaviors through food consumption, video game and television viewing promotion, and a "lazy man" routine through a loss of exercise. Modern advertising developed with the rise of mass production in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Mass media can be defined as any media meant to reach a mass amount of people. Several types of mass media are television, internet, radio, news programs, and published pictures and articles. Commercial advertisers often seek to generate increased consumption of their products or services through branding, which involves the repetition of an image or product name in an effort to associate related qualities with the brand in the minds of consumers. Different types of media can be used to deliver these messages, including traditional media such as newspapers, magazines, television, radio, outdoor or direct mail; or new media such as websites and text messages. Advertising may be placed by an advertising agency on behalf of a company or other organization. Non-commercial advertisers that spend money to advertise items other than a consumer product or service include political parties, interest groups, religious organizations and governmental agencies. Nonprofit organizations may rely on free modes of persuasion, such as a public service announcement. In 2007, spending on advertising was estimated at more than $150 billion in the United States and $385 billion worldwide. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How can I set up relationship with advertising agencies? Q. Hi. I work as an account executive for a minority daily newspaper in the US. Unlike other A/E in mainstream media, I can very less money. I want to set up relationships with big advertising agencies to expand my network, and eventually draw ads into my newspaper. I tried so many advertising agencies, but all I had are voice mails and no responses except the front desk receptionist. My question is how can I reach those people in advertising agencies? Any advice is welcomed. Thank you very much. Asked by luwei6363 - Thu Mar 20 17:36:41 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think there are at least two avenues for you to consider. An advertising agency or a marketing communications firm might be interested in your newspaper for two reasons: 1. The Media Director of the agency might be interested in reaching what, from your description, sounds like a very tight and well-defined demographic audience. In order to interest a media director, however, you will have to be able to provide detailed information about your newspaper. This would include the following: circulation - how many readers do you have? demographics - what is the actual demographic makeup of your readership? What is their ethnic makeup? How old are they? What kind of incomes do they have? Do they work in white collar jobs or blue collar… [cont.] Answered by endorphin_boy415 - Thu Mar 20 17:53:02 2008 What type of advertising would be good for my new recording studio? Q. I am looking for some ideas on what type of advertising & marketing for my new recording studio. Asked by kashi kiki - Wed Apr 26 17:09:01 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Word of mouth is the WORST way to promote ANY kind of company. It's only attraction is the cost of 0. Consider this...what you say in any ad is JUST (if not more, really) as important as WHERE you say it at or through what media. With word of mouth you have no control of your message. So even with the best intentions, someone could be talking you up and actually affect the listener negatively about what you can do. You never see your failures...only the successes with word of mouth. I would suggest radio, on stations that play the type of music you most like to produce. You know musicians are also listening in...best place to catch them. Next in line would be different music magazine publications or local 'hip' publications. The ones that… [cont.] Answered by Jeff P - Wed Apr 26 19:30:09 2006 How much should I charge for advertising sponsorship?
